Dr. Chang-Yu Chang Lab is seeking 1–2 motivated Research Assistants
Work content:
Our research team is seeking 1–2 motivated Research Assistants to join us in studying the ecology and evolution of microbial symbiosis in plant–microbe systems. We integrate field ecology, molecular microbiology, and genomic analyses to understand how microbial communities assemble and adapt across hosts and environments. This position is open until filled.
Current research topics
- The effect of host identity on symbiont community assembly
- Ecological genomics of symbionts across co-occuring native plant hosts
- Functional variation in ecologically important traits in faculative symbionts
Job description (Tasks are flexibly assigned; not all are required)
- Conduct field sampling, mostly in roadside, urban, and agricultural environments
- Isolate, culture, and maintain rhizobia strains and associated host plants
- Perform microbiological and molecular experiments (e.g., DNA extraction, NGS library preparation, sequencing)
- Design and conduct genomic experiments and analyses
- Perform bioinformatic analyses (e.g., genome assembly, annotation, and phylogenomics)
- Manage routine laboratory tasks and other assigned duties
Qualiificaitons:
- Master’s degree in biology, bioinformatics, data science, ecology and evolution, or a related field
-Relevant research experience related to the above topics or techniques
-Self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively, with strong communication skills
- Proficiency in English writing and communication, including writing reports and presenting research findings
-Familiarity with Linux or programming languages is a plus
